TMJ-Related Tinnitus (Ringing In The Ears) Corpus Christi
When a person has a TMJ that is in a neuromuscularly imbalanced position, the jaw joint may occasionally dislocate temporarily, pinching the nerves (chorda tympani nerve) and blood vessels in the ear, causing the sensation of ringing or itching deep in the ears just like when your arm or leg falls asleep because you have sat or laid on the limb.
Stresses from the TMJ on the ear can also cause dizziness. Stresses from the ligaments that are part of the jaw joint can put pressure on the nerves in the ear and even pressure on the eardrum itself. This can also cause the feeling of stuffy or stopped up ears because the Eustachian tubes are being pinched.
Tinnitus and dizziness can be caused by a variety of other health issues, so it is important to see Dr. Lowrance to establish what the cause of your tinnitus really is. He may refer you to an ENT specialist if he feels that your tinnitus is unrelated to TMJ issues.
Contact Corpus Christi TMJ dentist, Dr. Don Lowrance to schedule your TMJ consultation and possibly begin your TMJ treatment.
